Boresight Systems

Harmolign is Metronor’s range of platform-specific turn-key solutions that enable any technician to quickly and accurately carry out boresight/harmonization of applicable weapons, sights, sensors, navigation units, hard points etc. The systems are fully MIL-STD and intended for use in operational environments. Entering service in 2006, Harmolign is currently in use on multiple platforms with over 20 armed forces around the globe.

With Harmolign, the boresight/harmonization process is simple: Power up the system computer, then follow the on-screen graphical guidance – the system includes active Built-In-Test provisions that also monitor operator actions to secure valid measurement results. This reduces training requirements and ensures reliable boresight/harmonization data.

Harmolign systems are modular and based around a range of standard components – such as the system computer, camera, tripods, LED pads and cabling – and platform-specific mechanical adapters. Harmolign software consists of a common executable controlled by a layer of platform-specific configuration files that can easily and affordably be modified and re-verified. The Harmolign concept is therefore optimized to cost-efficiently support platforms that may go through upgrades or equipment changes during their service life.

Harmolign systems come with an Accessories Kit that enables the operator to carry out a full end-to-end verification of system performance, thus avoiding scheduled re-calibrations and dramatically reducing Life Support Cost.

Overall specifications will vary dependent on platform size and configuration, but typical data is:

  • Principle: Photogrammetry using computer-controlled LED targets and solid-state electro-optical sensors.

  • Accuracy: 0.1 mrad plus any contribution from aircraft LRU tray designs

  • Reliability: 2,400h MTBF (MIL-STD 217F and in-service data)

  • Environmental: MIL-STD 810F/G, ATEX Group XXXXXX, resistant to most fuels, oil and additives

  • Electromagnetic: CE marked, MIL-STD 461
